At Begin, we’re always looking for ways to develop confidence in kids, so we’ve included a bite-size affirmation on each note this school year. Why affirmations? As important as it is for you to encourage and support your child, building self-confidence is empowering, especially in a new situation like back-to-school, it is also important they develop a healthy sense of self-worth and confidence and regularly saying affirmation can do just that.

Affirming messages that focus on internal actions (Think “I love to learn” or “I can work hard” ) remind kids to use a growth mindset  in school –  to understand that their abilities can be developed through hard work. When you repeat positive statements like these, you can start to believe in them. When children have a healthy and positive view of themselves, they are more willing to try different activities or new challenges and continue developing their self-esteem.

How To Make Your Free Printable Lunchbox Notes:

  1. Print our Bite-Size Affirmation Lunchbox Notes.

2. Cut affirmation cards out along the dotted lines.

3. Choose an affirmation from the list or write a note, joke, or doodle. We’ve included a few of our go-to affirmations:

I love to learn.

I can take turns.

I can work hard.

I can help others.

I am loved.

4. Sign your name or a heart or draw yourself and pack in your child’s lunch box.

Play Tips:

You can use these cards to practice saying an affirmation together in the lead-up to starting school. Leave one on the bathroom mirror or on their bedside table as a reminder to practice regular affirmation.
